Easy Sew Casserole Wraps

Easy Sew Casserole Wraps
Outdoor picnics and al fresco gatherings of family and friends are always a delight. A favorite casserole carefully made and wrapped in a cheery home-made wrap adds to the beauty of any table presentation. The wraps facilitate transporting from kitchen to picnic location, add a little insulation and become hot pads as well.

Consider the following easy sew options:

Two-Towel Wrap: Take two colorful rectangular terry cloth dish towels or large face towels and arrange then centered one on top of the other at right angles and pin. A square is formed in the center and overlapping ends are equal. Machine stitch to secure the square's outer edges. Place any covered casserole (aluminum foil is perfect as a cover) in the square's center and fold over each of the free overlapping ends to cover. Once placed on the table, open the ends to reveal the tasty casserole. The wrap now becomes an attractive hot pad.

Pocket-Style Wrap: Lay two rectangular autumn print terry cloth dish towels right-sides facing and stitch long edges together. A tube is formed with opposite short ends remaining open. Turn right-sides out and press. Fold each short end toward the center approx. 6-inches. Top-stitch round all outside edges. To use, flip the towel wrap over so the pocketed ends are on the underside. Place covered casserole dish in the center. To carry, fold the pocketed ends up over the casserole dish sides and slip hands into the pockets for easy carry. Again, this wrap can also become a hot pad under the dish to protect a table surface.

Casserole Koozie: Use a rectangular piece of thick felt large enough to encase a casserole dish (two squares of felt may be sewn end to end to make the rectangle) or felt an old wool sweater and cut out two square pieces one from the sweater’s front and one from the back. Once stitched, fold in half. Place the casserole dish inside nestled within the folded piece to determine the width needed to then stitch the sides together. Leave one open end. The covered casserole is merely slipped between the layers for protected carrying ease. The wrap can become a hot pad to place the casserole on.

Bonus for each of these simple-to-sew casserole wraps is not only that the wrap helps in transport and itself becomes a hot pad to place the dish on when serving but remains under the dish as a colorful enhancement for any festive al fresco or communal table.

Sew happy, sew inspired.
